Phuket cricket could be said to have arrived when on the 16th February 2012 the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Members Eleven, from Lords, the home of cricket, played their first game of a two week tour of Thailand with a T20 match at the ACG.
The ACG since having its first game in early November 2011, the Phuket Cricket Group (PCG) and ACG have hosted several high profile tours including an eleven from the long-established Singapore Cricket Club, the Delhi Viceroys, and the Cricket Association of Thailand National Team vs Asian Invitational XI which featured former Bangladesh test captain, Aminul Islam.
This coming 2012/3 season we have four visiting touring sides scheduled at the moment, for details of these and our regular 40 0ver Senior League visit the Fixtures page. We also welcome Outrigger Hotels as our T/20 over sponsor, again match schedule on our Fixtures page.
The ACG was pleased to be selected by the Sports Authority of Thailand in conjunction with the Cricket Authority of Thailand for the Phuket National Youth Cricket Games, some twenty Thai youth teams competing in the true spirit of the game, over a ten day period late May to early June.
Organised cricket has been played on the island since 2005 under the newly formed Phuket Cricket Union, for recognition as a Demonstration Sport by the Cricket Authority of Thailand the name was changed to Phuket Cricket Group. For several years now the PCG and CAT have worked to develop Thai Youth Cricket in a number of Government Schools.
Youth development received a big boost with the availability early this year of the ACG ground.
The concept of a dedicated cricket ground was conceived by Alan in early 2005, land was acquired, and an initial start made. Further progress beyond plot clearance was delayed until late 2010.
Early in 2011 an ACG Construction Team, comprising Mark Ashman, Anthony van Blerk, Martin Foster, Stuart Reading was formed each bringing their particular skill and expertise to the Project.
The ACG Project has been very much a community effort, project management, architectural fees, legal fees, QS, electrical, structural engineering services, all provided at NO COST.
Significant donations by two Phuket cricket enthusiasts,
Dave Roberts and Keith Brooks, allowed the clubhouse to be completed to a higher standard.
